How this toy works
Seven colorful bars, seven real notes — a xylophone with no wrong notes physically possible. Tap a bar and it plays its note in one of five gentle instrument voices (music box, synth, and friends), every tone synthesized live in your browser: no recordings, no downloads, nothing streamed. A bubble mode floats the notes upward as they play for the days that want drifting color as much as sound, and gentle spoken color and solfège names are available for every note — a quiet bridge between music and words for whoever wants it.
Why it is built this way
“No wrong notes” is the whole design. Every bar plays a note that belongs with every other bar — so the smallest hands and the most random taps still make music, and the difference between noodling and melody-making is entirely the player's mood. That removes the single biggest discouragement of early music-making: sounding bad. You cannot, here.
The five voices exist because the same note lands differently in different ears — a music-box note and a synth note are different sensory experiences, and the toy leaves the choice to the player. The solfège and color names are optional scaffolding: for some children the spoken name is the hook that makes a note a word; for others it's noise on top of music, and it stays off. Same family rules as ever: no scores, no streaks, no ads, nothing uploaded.
How to use it well
- Play it yourself first — a grown-up noodling on the bars is the best instruction this toy ever gets.
- Let repetition be the play. Tapping the same bar forty times is musical exploration, not a problem to solve.
- Try the bubble mode for wind-down sessions — drifting color plus soft notes is a different, slower toy with the same seven notes.
- Names on for word-curious days, off for pure-music days. The toggle exists because both ways of hearing a note are right.

Are the instruments real recordings?
No — every voice is synthesized from oscillators shaped in code, generated the moment you tap. That's why the page is instant, tiny, and private: there's nothing to download and nothing that phones home.
Why seven notes and not a full keyboard?
Seven bars keep the whole instrument visible at once and every note reachable by a small hand — a complete instrument you can hold in your eyes beats a bigger one you have to hunt through.
What are the note names for — is it a lesson?
It's an option, never a lesson. For some players, hearing “this one is blue — do” turns the bars into words they can think with; for others it's narration on top of music they'd rather just play. The toggle exists precisely because both relationships to an instrument are valid, and the toy refuses to pick a side for the child.
Can it be played by more than one kid?
Yes — the bars are multi-touch, and duets happen the moment a second finger arrives. The toy has no opinions about whose music it is.
