Point the camera at whatever your child actually watches and the tile becomes theirs; the photo stays on this device, never uploaded. Anything you change is saved on this device and comes back next visit. How this board works
A “what to watch” choice board with plain text labels — cartoon, movie, sport, whatever your household actually watches. The twist is the camera button: photograph the real thing in the real room — the actual TV, the actual streaming tile on the actual screen — and the label becomes that photo, so “watch our show” is a picture of your show. Tapping a tile speaks the choice aloud in the browser's own voice, which makes the pick heard without a negotiation nobody wanted. Photos and tiles stay on this device; nothing uploads, and there is no account.
Why it is built this way
Choice boards work by making the options visible and tappable — and the fastest way to make an option unmistakable is a photo of the exact thing it refers to. Brand artwork is deliberately absent: a photo of the real remote and the real menu beats any icon library, because recognition is instant and personal. It's the same AAC logic the whole communication family runs on — concrete beats abstract, personal beats generic, spoken beats assumed — applied to the one negotiation that recurs nightly in most homes with a screen.
And the board speaks the pick aloud for a simple reason: the moment of choosing is often exactly the moment words are hardest, and a tap that says the choice out loud completes the communication without requiring speech at all.
How to use it well
- Photograph the real things. The actual TV screen showing the actual show menu; the actual tablet with the actual app. Specific photos make specific choices possible.
- Keep the options honest. The board works by being believed — put tiles on it that are genuinely available, and take off the ones that aren't.
- Let the tap be the whole sentence. A tap, a spoken label, and a grown-up who acts on it is a complete communication.
- Refresh photos when the world changes — new shows, new apps — the board stays true only if the photos do.
What this is not
- Not screen-time management. The board offers choices; it doesn't enforce limits. Rules about how much stay yours.
- Not a catalog. Two to a handful of real options beats everything ever made; the board is for choosing, not browsing.
- Not a data collector. Photos and taps stay on this device, full stop.
Questions people ask
Do my photos upload anywhere?
No. Photos are stored in this browser's storage on this device and displayed locally. There is no upload path on the page at all.
Why photographs instead of nice icons?
Because icons generalize and photos don't. A line-art “TV” tile asks the person to translate; a photo of your TV showing your show's menu asks nothing. The whole communication family runs on that principle — concrete beats abstract — and this board takes it furthest, because screens are exactly where generic icons fail hardest.
Can I use it for choices other than watching?
You can — photograph anything the household chooses between. But for needs and feelings there are better-fitting boards: My Board and Ask & Wonder.
What if my browser has no speech voice?
Virtually every modern device ships one; if none is present the taps still show the choice — the visual half of the board never depends on the audio half.
